IPv4 management interfaces and
VLANs
The main UI provides IPv4 configuration options that you can use to set up either
VLAN-based or port-based IP management.
By default, the source interface for applications is VLAN 1. If you change the IPv4
management VLAN and port values, the source interface to the VLAN 1 default VLAN
and port also change automatically.
You can access the switch over the main UI by one of the following methods:
•
IPv4 service port: The service port is a dedicated Ethernet port for out-of-band
(OOB) management of the switch. Management traffic on this port is segregated
from operational network traffic on the switch ports and cannot be switched or routed
to the operational network.
•
Management VLAN interface: The management VLAN is the logical interface used
for in-band connectivity with the switch over any of the switch's network interfaces.
To access the switch over a network you must first configure an IP address and subnet
mask for the switch.
•
Optional single management interface: By default, you can use any of the switch's
network interfaces as the management interface. However, you can restrict IPv4
management to one specific network interface.
Configure the IPv4 service port
You can configure network information on the IPv4 service port, also referred to as the
out-of-band (OOB) port. The service port is a dedicated Ethernet port for out-of-band
management of the switch. Traffic on this port is segregated from operational network
traffic on the switch ports and cannot be switched or routed to the operational network.
By default, no IP address is set for the OOB port, but its DHCP client is enabled so that
the port can receive an IP address from a DHCP server in your network. If the OOB port
does not receive an IP address from a DHCP server in your network, the IP address for
the port is set to 192.168.0.239 with 255.255.255.0 as the subnet mask. The same occurs
if you connect the OOB port directly to a computer and reboot the switch.
To configure the IPv4 service port:
1. Launch a web browser.
2. In the address field of your web browser, enter the IP address of the switch.
If you do not know the IP address of the switch, see Log in to the main UI with a web
browser on page 27 and the subsections.
