• Mark IP DSCP: Select this radio button to require packet to be marked with an

IP DSCP keyword code, which you must select from the menu. The DSCP value is
defined as the high-order 6 bits of the Service Type octet in the IP header.

• Simple Policy: Select this radio button to define the simple traffic policing style

for the class. By default, the simple policy is color blind, and color classes do not
apply. You can make the simple policy color aware and select a color class.
A simple policy supports a single data rate and results in an action for packets
that conform to the policy and an action for packets that violate the policy.

a. <> Specify the color class for the simple policy:

Color Blind: This is the default selection. Color classes do not apply.

Color Aware: Select this radio button to require a color class that is valid

for use with this policy instance. After you select Color Aware from the
Color Mode menu, the Color Conform Class menu displays. From this
menu, select another class (one that you already created, see Configure a
DiffServ class
on page 468 or Configure an IPv6 DiffServ class on page 475).
In the context of this policy, we refer to this selected class as the color class.
A valid color class contains a single, non-excluding match criterion, provided
that the criterion does not conflict with the classifier of the policy instance
itself:

b. Specify the traffic rate and bust size for packets that conform to the simple

policy.

Committed Rate. Specify the committed rate that is applied to conforming

packets by entering a value in the range from 1 to 4294967295
kilobits-per-second (Kbps). The committed rate is used to limit the arrival
rate of conforming traffic.

Committed Burst Size. Specify the burst size that is applied to conforming

packets by entering a value in the range from 1 to 128 KBytes (KB). The
committed burst size is used to limit the amount of conforming traffic.

c. Specify a policy action for packets that

conform

to the simple policy.

Send: Packets are forwarded unmodified. This is the default confirming

action.

Drop: Packets are dropped.

Mark CoS: Packets are marked by DiffServ with the specified CoS value

before being forwarded. This selection requires that the Mark CoS field is
set. You must select a CoS value from 0 to 7 from the menu.

Mark CoS As Secondary CoS: For these packets, the outer VLAN tag

priority bits are set as the inner VLAN tag priority. That is, for these packets,
the inner VLAN tag CoS is copied to the outer VLAN tag CoS.
