spanning-tree hello-time

Configures the hello-time in seconds on the interface.

Synopsis

spanning-tree hello-time seconds

no spanning-tree hello-time

Operands

seconds

Sets the interval between the hello Bridge Protocol Data Units (BPDUs) sent
by the root switch configuration messages. Valid values range from 1
through 10.

Defaults

2 seconds.

Command Modes

Interface subtype configuration mode

Description

Use this command to set the interval time between the BPDUs sent by the root switch. This
command is only for MSTP.

Usage Guidelines

Changing the spanning-tree hello-time affects all spanning-tree instances.

The max-age command setting must be greater than the spanning-tree hello-time command
setting.

If xSTP is enabled over VCS, this command must be executed on all RBridge nodes.Enter
no spanning-tree hello-time to return to the default setting.

Examples

To set the hello time to 5 seconds:

switch(config)# interface tengigabitethernet 0/1

switch(conf-if-te-0/1)# spanning-tree hello-time 5
