A section automatically expands vertically in two instances:

When you place an object and the object is bigger (vertically) than the
section you place it in.

When you expand an object (vertically) so it becomes bigger than the
section it resides in.

Note:

You cannot resize a section smaller than the combined height of all the
objects in the section.

You can also remove white space at the bottom of a Page Footer by
selecting Clamp Page Footer on the Common tab of the Section Expert.

Using multiple sections in reports

Certain reporting tasks are performed most efficiently by creating multiple
sections within an area, such as:

Keeping variable length objects from overwriting each other (see

Keeping

variable length objects from overwriting each other

).

Eliminating blank lines when fields are empty (see

Eliminating blank lines

when fields are empty

).

Adding blank lines under specific conditions (see

Adding blank lines

conditionally

).

Once you understand the power of multiple sections, you will discover even
more ways to produce the effects you want.
