SMTP Alerts

To open a connection, the switch first selects the server that successfully sent mail during the
last connection, or the first server configured by this command. If it fails to send mail, the
switch selects the next server in the list and tries to send mail again. If it still fails, the system
will repeat the process at a periodic interval. (A trap will be triggered if the switch cannot
successfully open a connection.)

Example

Console(config)#logging sendmail host 192.168.1.19

Console(config)#

logging sendmail level

This command sets the severity threshold used to trigger alert messages. Use the no form to
restore the default setting.

Syntax

logging sendmail level level

no logging sendmail level

level - One of the system message levels (see

“logging history”

on page 84). Messages

sent include the selected level down to level 0. (Range: 0-7; Default: 7)

Command Usage
The specified level indicates an event threshold. All events at this level or higher will be sent to the
configured email recipients. (For example, using Level 7 will report all events from level 7 to level
0.)

Example
This example will send email alerts for system errors from level 3 through 0.

Console(config)#logging sendmail level 3

Console(config)#

logging sendmail destination- email

This command specifies the email recipients of alert messages. Use the no form to remove a
recipient.

Syntax

[no] logging sendmail destination-email email-address

email-address - The source email address used in alert messages. (Range: 1-41
characters)
