Formatting dates and times
Dates and times can also be formatted using a format syntax.
Format syntax Result Example
m/d/yy Displays the date in short date
format. January 9 2002 becomes 1/9/02.
dddd, mmmm dd, yyyy Adds the day of the week to a long
date format. January 9 2002 becomes
Wednesday, January 9, 2002.
d-mmm Abbreviates the date to day and
abbreviated month. January 9 2002 becomes
9-Jan.
mmmm-yy Displays the full month and year. January 9 2002 becomes
January-02.
h:mm:ss a/p Displays the hour, minutes, seconds
and a/p.
Defaults to a if no time of day is
entered.
4:00 becomes 4:00:00 a.
4:00 pm becomes 4:00:00 p.
d-mmmm h:mm Displays the day, month, hour and
minutes. January 9 2002 4:00 becomes
9-January 4:00.
