Formats for text, numbers, dates and times

Xstudio allows you to format text and numbers in various ways using the F

ORMAT

property

(

page 15-6

). The table below identifies and describes the formats that are available from the

Format property’s drop-down list. Once you set the object’s format property, you can
immediately view the results of your formatting by switching to Production mode.

: If anything other than a numeric value is entered, the format will

be ignored and whatever the user entered will display as-is.

FORMATS

: If text is entered that is not a date and/or time, the format

will be ignored and the text will display as is.

While the default formats are adequate for most circumstances, you are not limited to these
default formats. Many others can be entered directly into the Format row. The following
sections identify and describe alternative symbols and syntax that can be used for
formatting numbers, dates and time values:

Upper Case

Displays text as upper case.

Stayed tuned becomes STAY
TUNED

Lower Case

Displays text as lower case.

Stayed tuned becomes stay
tuned
.

Title Case

Capitalizes the first letter of each word.

stayed tuned becomes Stay
Tuned
.

Currency

Displays number with currency symbol, thousand
separator (if appropriate) and displays two digits to
the right of the decimal separator. Further digits to
the right round the number up or down. Output is
based on user’s system settings.

52384.99 becomes
$52,382.99.
52384.998 becomes
$52, 383.00.

Stock Change

Displays numbers as positive (+) unless specified
negative (-), and displays two digits to the right of the
decimal separator. Further digits to the right round
the number up or down.

3.912778 becomes +3.91.

Trim

Deletes additional blank spaces surrounding the
text.

“ On Cue ” becomes
“On Cue”.
