Resizing and moving channels on the Timeline
Each channel on the Timeline has a set of handles (big blue dots) at either end of the
channel. Dragging the handles to the right or left allows you to resize (extend or shorten)
any channel on the Animation Editor’s Timeline.
Since the channels are organized in a tree structure in the Animation Tree, there are certain
hierarchical dependencies that must be respected. Therefore, when a high-level channel
(i.e. animation or object) is resized on the Timeline, the lower-level channels (i.e. property
channels) associated to the high-level channel are all stretched by the same amount as the
higher-level channel. For example, if the object channel is lengthened by ten frames, each
of the property channels will also be lengthened by ten frames.
Similarly, when a low-level channel (i.e. property channel) is extended further than the high-
level channels, the high-level channels extend to the same length as the lower-level. This
ensures, for example, that a property channel does not extend beyond the playout of the
animation channel.
To move any of the channels completely to a new location along the Timeline, you must click
anywhere on the channel line where there are no keyframes and drag left or right. The
lower-level channels move with the channel.
Moving a keyframe
Keyframes can be moved to a new location on the channel by dragging the keyframe to the
left or right along the Timeline, or by selecting the keyframe and then setting a new value in
the Frame/Time field in the Keyframe Editor.
Also note that the frame location of a keyframe can change as a result of the entire channel
being moved or resized. In such cases, the keyframes maintain their relative positioning
along the channel. See
“Resizing and moving channels on the Timeline” on page 7-39
more information.
