Linking objects to a data source
Setting dynamic keys
There may be cases where you would like the operator to call up specific data by entering
particular information (e.g. entering a political candidate’s ID number to display corresponding
first and last name, election riding, etc.). This would be done by setting up a dynamic key.
To set a dynamic key (example):
1.
Create the data entity as usual. For this example, a snapshot will be used.
2. In the S ELECT R ETURN C OLUMN ( S ) area of the S NAPSHOT S ETTINGS dialog box, select
the columns containing the information you would like returned (e.g. first and last
name) when the operator enters the key information.
3. In the S ET K EY ( S ) area:
a. From the N AME column, select the column name containing the data that the
operator will enter in order to call up the specific data from the selected return
columns.
b. From the Operator column, SELECT =.
c. From the V ALUE column, select D YNAMIC .
d. Press ENTER to register the key.

When you have finished creating the data entity, it should look something like this:

Entering a number in the K EY field (in this case, the Sport field) yields corresponding data
in the D ATA M EMBERS fields below.
