Animating scene objects
Scale X and Scale Y
Figure
demonstrates that the S
CALE
X and S
CALE
Y animated properties allow you to
create an animation effect that resizes the width and height an object over a period of time.
Figure 7-19. The Scale X and Scale Y animated properties are used to enlarge or shrink the object’s size
The actual dimensions of the asset are not changed, rather the S
CALE
X and S
CALE
Y
property values that you assign are scale factors that are multiplied by the object’s original
dimensions to temporarily redefine the object’s width and/or height.
The scaling formulas used are:

The following table demonstrates the effect that the scale values can have on the size of an
animation object.

The S
CALE
X animated property is responsible for setting the object’s width and the S
CALE
Y property is responsible for setting the object’s height. As such, each must have its own
property channel in the Animation Editor. To maintain the object’s proper aspect ratio (avoid
distortion) both the S
CALE
X and S
CALE
Y properties should be set to the same values.
Scale X & Scale Y values
Effect on the object’s size in the animation
2.0 / 2.0
Increases the object’s width and height to twice its original size.
1.0 / 1.0
Original width and height remain unchanged.
0.5 / 0.5
Decreases the object’s width and height to half of its original size.
