Parking Brake and Automatic
Transmission Park (P) Mechanism

Д CAUTION:
When you are doing ih\s checK. your vehicle
could begin to move. You or others coutd be
Injured and property could be damaged. Make
sure there l5 room in front oi your vehicle in
case it begins to roll'. Be ready to apply the
regular brake at ono 9 should the \/eh[cle begin
to move.
Park on a iairly stsep hlll^ with the vehccle facing
downhili. Keeping your foot on ihe regular brake, set ihe
parking brake.
• To Check Ihe parking brake s holding ability. Wilh
the engine running and transmission In
neutral {N), slowly remove foot pressure from
Ihe regular brake padal. Do U)is until the vehicle is
held by the paridrtg brake only,
• To check the PARK (P) mechanism's holding abilily^
With the angina running, shift to PARK (P) Then
release the parking brake followed by the regular
brake.
Underbody Flushing Service
At least every spring, use plain water to (lush any
comosive materials tmom the underbody. Take care to
clean thoroughly any areas where mud and other debris
can collect.
