Designing tests for Trend Monitoring
The Example Trend Monitoring Test installed with MPE provides an example of using trend monitoring
components in a test design. The example test includes two workflows, each of which provide different
test behaviors.
• The Basic Workflow runs until the sweep command is complete, and then generates a report. This
workflow does not stop the test when trend limits are exceeded.
• The Advanced Workflow includes a loop. When trend limits are reached, the command stops and allows
the operator to adjust trend limits and resume the loop. In this workflow, the test report is not generated
until the sweep command is complete.
You can customize the behavior of trend monitoring tests by combining trend monitoring components with
any of the other test activities included with MPE.
For example, to create a trend monitoring test that generates a test report and ends the test when the first
trend limits trip (without completing the sweep command), you would modify the Example Trend Monitoring
Test in the following way:
• Disable the Limit Trip Action path to the Parallel Path activity.
• Add an additional path to the Parallel Path activity.
• Select the new path as a terminal path.
• Copy and paste the Wait for Event activity from the existing Trip Action path to the new path.
• Set the Condition for the copied Wait for Event activity to Counter>0.
Exporting data
The Trend Monitoring activity discards raw data (that is, data that is not mapped to variables), so it is not
recommended that you use the Export Raw Data right-click option for test runs in the MPE Explorer panel,
or that you use the Export Data activity in trend tests.
Data acquired during trend tests is available for monitor displays and test reports.
Example Trend Monitoring Test
In this section, you will open the Example Trend Monitoring Test included with the MTS MP application.
The example test was created to run in simulation and includes test run data.
