Example: Setting Span and Setpoint

Use the Maintain command option in a test design when operators need to initialize or reset setpoint and
span values. The sequence of activities in this example accommodates both normal shutdown and abnormal
resume scenarios. This example test design illustrates the Set Span and Setpoint activity increasing the
amplitude of a cyclic waveform, as shown in the following waveform.

Increasing Amplitude of a Cyclic Waveform

The test ramps to zero (0) mm and then initializes the setpoint and span values (activities 1 and 2 in the
Test Design workflow). Within the parallel path (activity 3), the setpoint and span variables increment with
each cycle (activity 5), and the setpoint steps upward in value. When the Cycle + DAQ (activity 4) reaches
its maximum number of cycles, or when the test stops for some reason (detected by activity 6), the setpoint
and span (activity 7) are restored to a known value of zero (0) mm and 100% while preventing actuator
movement. Lastly, a ramp (activity 8) returns the actuator to an absolute end level of zero (0) mm.
