About this Section

This section contains introductory and procedural information about the Trend Monitoring option for MTS
TestSuite software. It provides a detailed review of the Example Trend Monitoring Test provided with the
MTS MPE application.

You will examine the test’s workflow, test activities, and so on. Understanding the example test will help
you understand how to create trend monitoring tests of your own.

Trend Monitoring Overview

Note:

A license key is required to install and enable the Trend Monitoring option.

Purpose

The Trend Monitoring option for MTS TestSuite software performs calculations to allow you to monitor
statistical trends of selected test information. One of the key benefits of the Trend Monitoring option is that
it allows you to be selective about what and how much data you need to monitor and collect to determine
data trends. Instead of taking a broad approach to test monitoring, you can focus on test information that
is critical to your needs.

Trend definition

In this context, the term “trend” refers to a specific condition, state, or event that you want to monitor during
execution of a test.

Trend Monitoring components

When you install the Trend Monitoring option, the following components are available to you in the MPE
application:

Trend Monitoring activity—Acquires data and performs calculations to determine statistical trends.
Path: Procedure tab > Toolbox > Data Acquisition category.

Trend Monitoring Limits Table—Table that allows you to set and edit Trend Monitoring Limits. Path:
Test-Run Display tab > Toolbox > Cycle Views category.

Trend Monitoring Limits Chart—Chart that plots Trend Monitoring Statistics. Path: Test-Run Display
tab > Toolbox > Cycle Views category.

Note:

The Parallel Path activity, which is a general purpose test flow control, is required to create trend
monitoring tests. The Repeat Loop activity, which is also a general purpose test flow control, is
