Introduction

The Multipurpose Elite (MPE) application is a sophisticated, general purpose test design application that
allows you to quickly and easily define and execute complex test designs. The role of either Administrator
or Engineer is required to access full functionality of MPE. Operators are allowed to access MPE but with
only the same rights they have in MPX.

Note:

MTS offers a companion application to MPE named Multipurpose Express (MPX). MPX cannot be
used to create or modify tests; it is only to run existing tests.

If you have experience using the MTS MultiPurpose TestWare (MPT) application, see the Appendix in the
Multipurpose Elite Test Design Guide for a comparison of concepts, functions, and terminology between
MPT and MPE that will help you transition to using MPE.

Overview of MTS TestSuite File Structure

The MTS TestSuite file heirarchy comprises several individual components. Each component stores a
specific set of information. For example, a test contains a set of activities (known as the procedure), and
the test run contains the data acquisition information and variable values that were obtained when the test
was run. Furthermore, each component has a relationship with at least one other component. For example,
the analysis definition uses the information in the test run to create an analysis run in either the Fatigue
Analyzer or Fracture Analyzer applications.

In the following table, each of the main components of the MTS TestSuite structure are described. In the
following sections of this document, the data stored in these components and the relationships between
these components is described in detail.

Name

A project is a collection of tests and test templates. By creating separate
projects, you can organize similar tests and test templates and various
project-level settings, such as the language or unit types used.

Project

A test is the core component of MTS TestSuite. The test contains the test
definition along with any test runs, analysis definitions, or analysis runs that
have been created.

Test

Test templates eliminate the need to re-create existing information and provide
an easy way to run standard tests.

Test Template

A test run contains all data that was gathered during a single run of the test.
