Overview of Directory Services Authentication
Directory Services is a licensable option that can be used to authenticate users and verify the Guest
identity via a protocol: LDAP, ADSI, NDS, or NWCOMPAT. The authentication depends on the user
name, password, and directory service name supplied by the guest user.
Digital StoreFront authenticates only that the user has access to his or her own account in the
Directory Service database.
If you are not using LDAP services, make sure the box Use Directory Service Authentication on
the Site Settings > Directory Services Authentication tab is unchecked.
If licensed, the integration option Authentication Pkg: LDAP and Login Bypass will be checked on

What is Directory Services Authentication for?
When should you use it?
To authenticate users against an LDAP network.
To validate the username/password
combination against the LDAP server to
ensure that it is valid.
User Authentication in Digital StoreFront
Standard Authentication
Customer wants to use email address or User Name for login.
What is standard authentication?
Standard authentication is included as base functionality in Digital StoreFront. Standard authentication
is the ability to use a Login Name (text string) and password to authenticate on Digital StoreFront.
Technically this is "Forms Authentication." Passwords are SHA1 (Secure Hash Algorithm ) encrypted.
What is the requirement to implement it?
Standard authentication functionally is included in the core Digital StoreFront product.
How are users added?
Bulk Upload

Users can be added via bulk import of a flat file. This import can take place periodically to add new
users to the system (each bulk upload process adds the new users and does not overwrite the
existing user database). Bulk importing of users can include all their profile data including user
passwords. User passwords are stored on the Digital StoreFront server using SHA1 (Secure Hash
Algorithm*) encryption.
