Overview of Unit System Settings
The Unit System tab is where you will define the unit system (measurement standard for length and
weight). Each country has a different standard for measuring units of weight and physical dimensions.
For instance, the United States is on the US System, most of Europe is on the System International, and
the United Kingdom is on the Imperial System. Defining the Unit System for the site prevents
administrators from having to manually perform unit conversions.
The unit system settings determine the unit that is shown to a buyer on the site for media, products,
etc. For instance, an administrator in the U.S. can enter the weight of a product in pounds (lb), but a
buyer viewing the product details in a country on the System International will see the weight in
kilograms (kg). The system handles all conversions between unit systems.
On the Countries page, you can define the unit system per country. Most countries are preset.

What are Unit System settings for? When should you change them?
Setting measurement standards for the site To specify the unit system (standards for
measuring dimensions and weight) for the site.
To set the unit system for the site
1. From the Unit System pull-down list, select the standard unit system to use for the site.
The All Units System contains all the units the system supports and is the default.
The actual unit system in use at run time depends on the system defined in this
order: buyer level (if defined) / company (if defined) / print shop (if defined) / site
(this setting). The All Units System setting in essence means that no Unit System
setting is set at this level, so use the next defined unit system (at the buyer,
company, print shop, or site level).
Note on the Unit System setting:
The unit system can be set at four levels in Digital StoreFront:
● Site level (in Site Settings)
● Print Shop level
● Company level
● Buyer level
The lowest level that has a unit system set will be used for a given buyer (user).
Thus if a unit system is set at the Buyer level, that unit system setting will override
the unit system settings on the three remaining higher levels (Company, Print Shop,
and Site). Likewise, if a unit system is set at the Company level, that unit system
setting will be used (as long as no unit system is set at the Buyer level).
