If this VLAN will be unique in your network, then its VID should also be
unique. If this VLAN will be part of a larger VLAN that spans multiple
switches, than the VID value for the VLAN should be the same on each
switch. For example, if you are creating a VLAN called Sales that will
span three switches, you should assign the Sales VLAN on each switch
the same VID value.

Note

A VLAN must have a VID.

The switch is only aware of the VIDs of the VLANs that exist on the
device, and not those that might already be in use in the network. For
example, if you add a new AT-8524M switch to a network that already
contains VLANs that use VIDs 2 through 24, the AT-S62 software will
still use VID 2 as the default value when you create the first VLAN on
the new switch, even though that VID number is already being used
by another VLAN on the network. To prevent inadvertently using the
same VID for two different VLANs, you should keep a list of all your
network VLANs and their VID values.

6. Select the Name field and enter a name for the new VLAN.

The name can be from one to fifteen alphanumeric characters in
length. The name should reflect the function of the nodes that will be
a part of the VLAN (for example, Sales or Accounting). The name
cannot contain spaces or special characters, such as asterisks (*) or
exclamation points (!).

If the VLAN will be unique in your network, then the name should be
unique as well. If the VLAN will be part of a larger VLAN that spans
multiple switches, then the name for the VLAN should be the same on
each switch where nodes of the VLAN are connected.

Note

A VLAN must be assigned a name.

7. To select the ports for the VLAN, click the ports in the switch image.

Clicking repeatedly on a port toggles it through the following
possible settings:

Untagged port

Tagged port

Port not a member of the VLAN
