Fractional Interfaces
Fractional Interfaces
A fractional interface is a group of sequential DS0s in the same DS1, such as DS0s 19 through 24. A
fractional interface must be used to connect DS0s to a remote interface.
Each Access Navigator can support up to 64 fractional interfaces. Each DS1 can have several fractional
interfaces, but each remote SDSL, RS-232, or V.35 port can be connected to only one fractional
interface. A T1 Drop port can be connected to several fractional interfaces to support voice, data, and
GR-303 traffic using different DS0s.
Fractional interfaces must be defined as data, voice, or GR-303. Data and voice interfaces carry DCS
service. To carry GR-303 voice service, the Access Navigator must have the GR-303 option to make
connections to a GR-303 IDT switch.
To be a valid assignment, the interface type must be compatible with the DS1 and DS0 type, as shown
in Table 11-2 For example, a voice type interface can only be assigned to voice type DS0s on a voice
type DS1. Invalid combinations in the table are grayed out.
The Access Navigator makes it easy to identify and work with fractional interfaces. The add
interface
command allows the operator to give the fractional interface a meaningful name for easy
recognition. Names also make CLI commands simpler to use. Only one command, connect remote,
is needed to connect the DS0s between a fractional interface and the remote interface port.
