34.1.3 TTL of outer IP header
The TTL of the outer IP header (see fig. 34.1 ) is by default set equal to the TTL of
the IP packet carried inside. It is possible to configure a specific TTL for the outer
header for each GRE tunnel.
34.1.4 Restricting outbound interface for GRE traffic
By default, GRE traffic will be sent out through the interface leading towards the
remote tunnel endpoint. The outbound interface is then selected on a per-packet
basis by consulting the routing table (just like any other IP packet). It is also
possible to configure the GRE tunnel to only allow traffic to go out via a specific
network interface.
