management software. VLAN memberships can be changed any time
through the management software without moving the workstations
physically, or having to change group memberships by moving cables
from one switch port to another.
Additionally, a virtual LAN can span more than one switch. This means
that the end nodes of a VLAN do not need to be connected to the
same switch and so are not restricted to being in the same physical
location.
The AT-8500 Series switch supports the following types of VLANs you can
create yourself:
ˆ Port-based VLANs
ˆ Tagged VLANs
These VLANs are described in the following sections.
