Number and Types of E-MEM Levels

The Zodiak system supports a large number of E-MEM levels because of
the many different sets of operating controls available. E-MEM levels for
the following functional areas exist.

Each M/E primary partition

Each Background Matte Generator

Each Aux Bus

Each External Digital Effects System

Each DDR, VTR, Character Generator, and Graphics System

Each GPI output

Each Zodiak Still Store output

Each PBus 2 address

Each MIDI device (in development)

R-MEM (in development)

The actual number of levels in a particular system will vary, depending on
the Zodiak configuration settings and the number of external devices.

Enable Groups

During system configuration (Suite Preference) E-MEM levels are assigned
to 8 Enable control panel buttons, which are then used to control when
their assigned levels are active, or enabled. More than one level can be
assigned to each Enable button. The group of levels enabled by a single
button is called an enable group. This mechanism allows the control
grouping to be changed to meet different applications, and permits control
of multiple related levels with a single button.

Auto Recall and Effect Levels

The Zodiak system has an Auto Recall feature. This feature makes a
recalled effect automatically enable all the levels that were involved in that
effect when the effect was learned. This is a useful feature, since is can be
difficult to remember all the levels involved in every learned effect, and
time is required to manually enable levels before recall. The Auto Recall
feature is on by default, but can be turned off to permit manual level
enabling.
