Section 4 — Menus Overview

CAUTION When adjusting Proc Amp controls, illegal colors could be generated. Illegal

colors have equivalent red, green, and blue color components that take on
negative values. Illegal colors can cause problems in picture monitors and
other equipment downstream of the switcher. The amount of adjustment that
can cause this problem depends on the original picture content. This problem
does not occur for typical small adjustments.

Proc Amp Transfer Function graphics appear on both the Proc Amp Luma
and Proc Amp Chroma menus. Two oscilloscope-like figures symbolize
the input to output characteristics of the video processing. The rectangular
figure shows Luma, and the round figure shows Chroma. These are only
representations. The figures do not show actual video. See Proc Amp
Transfer Function Graphics Detailed Description

on page 319

for details.

The Proc Amp

ON

button below the graphics turns Proc Amp processing

for both Luma and Chroma on and off (except Hue Rotation, which is con-
trolled by PseudoColor). When on, the Proc Amp graphic traces are
colored bright green and, if settings are not at nominal values, an

UNCAL

indicator is displayed announcing uncalibrated video (

Figure 222

). When

off, no processing is applied regardless of the values displayed, and the
Proc Amp graphic traces dim (

Figure 223

). Parameter values are main-

tained even when the function is off to permit convenient A/B comparison
between processed and unprocessed video.

The

Reset to Unity

button returns only the settings for the currently displayed

Luma or Chroma controls to their factory default values.

The Proc Amp Luma parameter group can modify the gain and offset for
luminance, the overall gain for chrominance, and hue rotation. The range,
nominal values, and units for these controls are shown in
