Machine Control

Zodiak Still Store stills and clips can be loaded to Still Store outputs and
played using the External Devices Control menu.

Duplicating a Still Store Item

A Still Store item loaded to a Still Store output cannot be saved directly as
a different Still Store item. However, a Still Store output can be fed as an
input to a different Still Store channel and then be captured or recorded
and saved, to duplicate the original item. Choose a different folder location
or a new name when saving the new item, to prevent overwriting the orig-
inal item.

Crop, position, and freeze options set on the output Still Store channel
feeding the Still Store input are incorporated into the image itself with this
technique, and so they will not be adjustable later. Because the images are
digital there should be no degradation of image quality.

Cache Management

The Zodiak system manages the cache automatically, uncaching old mate-
rial to make room for new. However, automatic caching has limitations
you should be aware of. In general, keep storage requirements in mind
when working with the Still Store, especially if you are working with long
clips.

It is possible to record long animated clips that requires most or all of
the available cache space. If long clips are loaded to outputs, that
portion of the cache will be locked and it may not be possible to cache
new material. Unloading a long clip from the output removes the lock
and makes it available for uncaching. However, once a long clip is
uncached it will take time to cache it again if it is still needed.

When animation clips are recorded, the system calculates the amount
of cache space required and frees up that space at the onset of
recording. As mentioned above, a long clip can require a large amount
of cache space, so recording a long clip will uncache a lot of material.
Aborting a recording in progress will not prevent the material from
being uncached, since the system clears the required space when the
recording begins.

Still Store menu controls are available to clear the cache manually.
