If no transition/cross fade exists between the clips, the Add option is
enabled and the Replace option is greyed out. If a transition/cross fade
already exists, the Replace option is active and the Add option is greyed
out.
Selecting Custom from the menu displays the Custom dialog shown in
Figure 320 .

Settings in this dialog are enabled or disabled depending upon the status
of the clips and transitions at the drop location. Select the desired transition
options and click the
OK button to place the transition or cross fade with
these settings.
