4.4.3.3
Line Side Interfaces
4.4.3.3.1 Sonet/SDH subsystem
For each TEMUX336 the four receive and transmit working SONET/SDH serial interfaces are
routed via the mezzanine connector to the ARTM-831X_base unit and connected to SFP+
Transceiver sockets.
Two of the SONET/SDH serial interfaces (one per device) are capable of running at either OC-
12/STM-4 (622.08Mb/s) or OC-3/STM-1 (155.52Mb/s). The other six (three per device) are
fixed to OC-3/STM-1 (155.52Mb/s).
The SONET/SDH LVDS transmit and receive signals are biased for external AC coupling, thus
only SFP optics with internal AC coupling and 100Ohm differential termination on the transmit
side are supported.
The SONET/SDH Transport Overhead (TOH) and Path Overhead (POH) are connected to the
TSI-FPGA. This allows extraction of overhead bytes from RTOH, RPOH ports and insertion of
overhead bytes at the TTOH and TPOH ports.
4.4.3.3.2 PDH Subsystem / DS3/E3 LIU
Four hex E3/DS3 LIU devices provide a total of 24 third level PDH line interface I/O via the two
VHDCI connectors. Two LIU devices each are connected to one TEMUX336 to support its 12
E3/DS3 slices. Each LIU is connected to the local bus for control and configuration.
Monitoring/Alarm signals and recovered clocks are delivered to the expander FPGA.
4.4.3.3.3 DS3/E3 Line Interfaces
The DS3/E3 line interfaces of the TEMUX336 devices are connected to the LIU in bipolar mode.
The DS3/E3 LIU are configured to operate in Single Frequency Mode. A reference clock of
12.288MHz is applied and the internal clock synthesizer generates the appropriate clock
frequencies based on the configuration of the channels in E3, DS3 modes.
4.4.3.3.4 Local Bus
The LIU devices are connected to the Local Bus Interface in asynchronous, non-multiplexed,
Intel bus mode. The data bus width is 8Bit.The address bus width is 8Bit.
