Dial-out/Dial-in

You can configure the OSM client software to notify a remote service provider of problems with
your server. This remote notification is referred to as dial-out. Problems are reported to the OSM
Notification Director in the form of problem incident reports, which can be forwarded to or
automatically dialed out to a remote service provider.

Dial-in allows a remote service provider to dial in to your system console and use OSM client
software to access your server to diagnose hardware and software problems.

Dial-out and dial-in are configured in the OSM Notification Director. For instructions, see the OSM
Configuration Guide
and the Notification Director online help.

Unattended Site

The ability to have OSM software monitor your system from an unattended site exists. You are no
longer asked during client installation whether you want to configure your system console as an
unattended site because of an enhancement in the OSM Notification Director.

The OSM Notification Director can be configured to run as a Windows service rather than an
application, meaning you can configure it to automatically start upon Windows startup, without
requiring a user logon. The OSM Notification Director receives and processes incident reports
without having to leave the system console logged onto by a super-group user.

Configuring OSM Power-Fail Support

HP Integrity NonStop NS-series systems do not have backup battery units; however, you can use
a site or rack-integrated Uninterruptible power supply (UPS) unit to provide backup power in the
event of a power failure.

For rack-integrated UPS units, OSM provides an orderly system shutdown in the event that a power
failure exceeds the powerfail-delay time interval specified for your rack-integrated UPS. To configure
this OSM power-fail support:

For an HP Integrity NonStop NS16000 server, you must use the

Configure Power Source as

UPS

action for at least one processor switch power supply unit to tell OSM that a rack-integrated

UPS is configured to provide backup power.

For an HP Integrity NonStop NS1000, NS1200, NS2000 series, NS2100, NS2200 series,
or NS14000 series server, you must use the Configure Power Source as UPS action for at
least one

IOAM power supply

or

VIO power supply

unit to tell OSM that a rack-integrated

UPS is configured to provide backup power.

For an HP Integrity NonStop Blades System, you must use the Configure a Power Source as
UPS action for at least one power supply from the

Enclosure

object to tell OSM that a

rack-integrated UPS is configured to provide backup power.
