When initiated, OSM checks for any connected paths that do not have a backup and warns you
of any connectivity loss that could result from continuing with the action. OSM also directs you to
the online help for precautionary guidelines for handling the hardware. See:

Removing the FCSA

Installing the Replacement FCSA

Once you confirm that the FCSA has been replaced, OSM presents these options for bringing up
the paths associated with this adapter:

Bring up and balance. This option makes the -P (primary) and -M (mirror) paths active.

Bring up only. This option starts the path only if the other path is already up.

Leave down.

Responsive Test

Verifies that the FCSA is connected and responding.

Test Verify

Verifies basic functionality of the FCSA.

Removing and Installing a Fibre Channel ServerNet Adapter

Removing the FCSA

NOTE:

Whenever you handle a FCSA, follow standard operating practices to avoid damage to

the equipment. Review the standard operating practices documented in the Fibre Channel ServerNet
Adapter Installation and Support Guide
.

1.

Find the group, module, and slot of the IOAM in which the FCSA is installed.

2.

Tag the Fibre Channel cables connected to the FCSA with physical labels, preferably at both
cable ends. The labels should include:

A description of the equipment and connector to which the cables are to be connected

The slot location of the FCSA to which the cable is connected

3.

Disconnect the Fibre Channel cables one at a time by squeezing the plastic retaining clip at
the end of the cable and gently pulling.

4.

Protect the equipment from electrostatic discharge:
a.

Place an antistatic table mat on a flat horizontal work surface near the IOAM enclosure.

b.

Put on an ESD wrist strap.

c.

Attach the grounding clip from the ESD wrist strap to any unpainted metal surface on the
IOAM enclosure or on the rack in which the enclosure is installed.

CAUTION:

Do not attach the ESD grounding clip to doors or to any painted surface.

5.

Press down on the ejector to unseat the adapter. The adapter must be pulled at least two
inches out of its slot to be unseated. If the adapter is not unseated far enough, a long connector
pin in the midplane can still be engaged with the FCSA. This will make some software behave
as though the FCSA is still in its slot but is broken.

6.

Grasp the FCSA by its ejector in one hand and slowly pull the FCSA part way out of the slot.

7.

Grasp the FCSA by its handle while supporting the bottom edge of the FCSA with the other
hand and pull the FCSA the rest of the way out of the slot.

NOTE:

The FCSA weighs approximately 7.25 pounds (3 kilograms).

8.

Place the FCSA on the antistatic mat.
