Importing and Exporting
Export to File
‘Target Column’
The ‘Target Column’ entries show what the column headers in the file will be (if you have
enabled column headers). Otherwise, they just identify the fields that you can export.
The text in these fields are concatenations of the table name and the field names of the
table. For example, for the device table, the first entry is DEVICE_ID, which is a concatenation
of “Device” and “ID.” (There is no such thing as a device ID and there is no DEVICE_ID field
anywhere in NV9000-SE Utilities.
‘Export’
The ‘Export’ column contains check boxes. Place a check in the check box for table fields you
want to export and clear the check boxes for fields that you do not want to export.
‘Mnemonic/Name or ID’
Some entries in this column are disabled and the disabled entries are grayed out.
For any field that you wish to export and that has an enabled mnemonic/ID entry, you must
specify whether to export that field as a mnemonic or as a (database) ID.
(If the data you export are imported, they must be imported with the flag set the same way.
Buttons
At the bottom of the page (and other pages in the export equence) are buttons that allow you
to move through the sequence of steps in device definition. This page has two buttons:
•
Export
•
Previous
•
Cancel
Generally, the buttons are grayed out (disabled) until they become applicable. For instance, you
cannot use the ‘Previous’ button (to go to a previous page) until you have used the ‘Next’ button
to go to one of the next pages.
‘Export’ Button
Click ‘Export’ to go to the next step of the export sequence, which is a Windows ‘Save’ dialog in
which you specify the file name, and the folder in which to save the exported file.
The default name for the file is a concatenation of
Export
+
table name
+
csv
For example, if you are exporting the device table, the file name is
ExportDevice.csv
.
When you click OK in the ‘Save’ dialog, NV9000-SE Utilities carries out the save and returns a
message indicating success:
Failure messages can occur but they are rare and usually based on conditions in your computer’s
file system.
