Devices and Device Categories
Category Details Page
Category Information
The ‘Name’ field displays the category’s name. It is basically a reminder of which category you
are editing, but you can also change the name of the category here.
 Remember that the category name is the “base name” of device names that are selected at a
control panel.
The ‘Description’ field can contain any description of the category that you find useful. It is not
necessary to enter any information in this field.
Category Buttons
At the bottom of the page are 3 simple buttons that pertain to the category itself:
• Save
Click ‘Save’ to commit (make permanent) the changes you have made in the page.
• Revert to Saved
Click ‘Revert to Saved’ to restore the saved version of the category definition, discarding any
changes you have made (since the last save).
• ‘Save & Close’
Click ‘Save & Close’ to commit the changes you have made in the page and then close the
page.
Device List
The devices list is the principal part of the page. Many of the other sections of the page refer to
this section, especially the filter section. This is a sample:
It is in this table that you assign suffixes to devices in the category.
 Remember that panel operators who use category device selection methods do so by
pressing suffix buttons, appending suffix text to the device name formed of its base name
and previously appended suffix text.
