Level-to-Port Relationships
You can determine fairly easily which ports you may assign to a device. There is a firm relation-
ship between the virtual levels of the device (and its level set) to the router ports.
The virtual levels of the device are those of its level set. In the level set, each virtual level is asso-
ciated with a physical level. That physical level was defined for a specific router. The physical
level has a specific range of input ports and output ports.
Thus, for any virtual level, you can determine its router and, for that router, the range of ports for
the level.
In this example, input ports 1–144 and output ports 1–144 are available for virtual level HD in
this level set.
You should remember, or keep an account of, the ports that you have already used.
