The System Controller
At the rear of the NV920 frame are two identical sets of connectors, one for each system
controller. These are the connections for one system controller:
Among these are 3 Ethernet (RJ-45) connectors. Two support 1G Ethernet. The third supports
100M Ethernet. The Ethernet ports are otherwise identical. At least one must be used for a panel
and router network. One must be connected to your “house network” for configuration and
monitoring.
IP Addresses
The default subnet mask is 255.255.255.0 with a device range of 1–254. Your subnet masks need
not be 255.255.255.0. If a subnet mask differs, the device address range will be something other
than 1–254.
The different system controller models have different default IP addresses.
• NV960
The NV960 has at least two Ethernet ports, built into the frame, called the “house net” and
the “control net.” It typically has 4 additional Ethernet ports. The actual number of ports
depends on the number and type of PCI cards installed in the NV960 frame. These are the
usual port assignments:
You can change these IP addresses. You should connect your PC to the house net. It must be
on the same subnet as the house net.
It is possible to re-purpose all of these networks. Unless there is a very compelling reason,
avoid doing so. (The control net is a private network shared only by the two controllers in a
redundant pair.)
