Virtual Levels and Level Sets

Level Set Details Page

This table has several functions:

1 It defines virtual levels. Every virtual level you add in this table is a new virtual level.

2 Together, the virtual levels define the level set.

3 The entries in the ‘Display Index’ column defined the order in which virtual levels are pre-

sented on control panels. (NV9000-SE Utilities calls the virtual level having the lowest display
index the “primary” level.)

4 The table can identify the “free source” for each virtual level. In most cases, you can leave this

field blank.

A free source is one of the devices defined in your configuration. Typically devices are
defined after level sets are created. Therefore when you are defining the level set, there
might be no source devices, assigned to this level set, from which to choose a free
source. In that case, wait until you have created source devices and return to the level set
table to specify the free source.

Defining a Level Set

To define the level set is to add entries to the ‘Level Set Details’ table. Keep in mind that the
virtual levels you add will appear in the order given by their display indexes.

To define a level set, repeat these steps for each virtual level you want to include in the level set:

1 Click a ‘Virtual Level’ field of the table. Choose a virtual level from the drop-down list that

appears.

The virtual levels from which you can choose are pre-defined, either by default or because
you have actively defined virtual levels for your system. See

‘Virtual Levels’ Table

on

page 129.

2 Click the ‘Physical Level’ field next to the virtual level field. Choose a physical level from the

drop-down list that appears. The physical level you choose is the one that will switch signals
on the virtual level in the associated ‘Virtual Level’ field. (Your configuration defined that
physical level in one of its router definitions.)

3 Optionally click the ‘Free Source’ field in the row for the virtual level you chose in step 1.

Generally a free source is not necessary, but in certain cases you might want a free source,
such as for a machine control level, or when your system has tielines.

Choose a free source from the drop-down list of source devices that appears when you click
the field. (If the list is empty, you must return to the level set details table later, after you have
defined source devices.)

Virtual Level Types

The list of virtual level names at the left side of the page serves as a reminder of the virtual level
types available. It also shows where a virtual level name is a member of a virtual level group.

This section is superfluous

it is not needed to define a level set. However, it is intended as a

convenience. Besides letting you view the virtual level names (or virtual level types), you can,
using the buttons at the bottom of the list, create a new virtual level type or add a level to a
group, without jumping to another page.
