Control Panels
Introduction
Introduction
Many events in an NV9000 router control system are initiated at control panels.
NV9000-SE Utilities supports about 20 hardware control panel models. A few of the panel types
supported in NV9000-SE Utilities are not actually control panels, but appear in the control
panels selection list because it is convenient to configure these devices as if they were control
panels.
Grass Valley also offers about a dozen “virtual panels.” These are software emulations of hard-
ware panels that reside and execute on users’ PCs. NV9000-SE Utilities treats these as if they
were hardware panels and does not distinguish them from hardware panels.
NV9000-SE Utilities also supports two software control panels. Like the virtual panels, these
reside and execute on users’ PCs. These do not emulate hardware panels.
The following is a list of the available hardware panels:

NV9000-SE Utilities also supports 2 CR series “remote panel” types:
RP16 RP32
and two special devices, handled as if they were panels, but that are not actually control panels
for the router control system:
NV9575-VF NV9660
These panel types are all discussed later in this chapter.
Notes
Hardware and virtual panel configurations in NV9000-SE Utilities are identified by panel ID. The
configuration with a given panel ID is used for communicating with the panel having that
particular ID.
All panel IDs throughout your system must be distinct. If there is an ID collision, no harm will
occur, but one or more panels will fail to operate.
The software panels are a bit archaic, but they are free. Virtual panels are preferable but there is
a cost for the license.
