encapsulation
Use the encapsulation command in Interface Configuration mode to
configure the Link Layer encapsulation type for the packet. Routed frames are
always ethernet-encapsulated when a frame is routed to a VLAN.
Syntax
encapsulation {ethernet | snap}
• ethernet — Specifies Ethernet encapsulation.
•
snap — Specifies SNAP encapsulation.
Default Configuration
Ethernet encapsulation is the default configuration.
Command Mode
Interface Configuration (VLAN) mode
User Guidelines
This command has no user guidelines.
Example
The following example applies SNAP encapsulation for VLAN 15.
console(config)#interface vlan 15
console(config-if-vlan15)#encapsulation snap
ip address
Use the ip address command in Interface Configuration mode to configure
an IP address on an interface. Also use this command to configure one or
more secondary IP addresses on the interface. The ip address none command
sets the IP address to "none". The no ip address command sets the IP address
to the default (whatever the default is). Use the show ip interface command
to display the configured IP addresses.
