Step 4: Give Names to the Ends of the Fiber

Names let you identify the locations of the fiber ends. For
example, End 1 is in the telecommunications closet and End 2 is in
a work area.
4-1 On the CHANGE ID screen, tap the End: panel.

4-2 On the EDIT END NAME screen, tap the End 1 box, then use

the keyboard to enter a name.

4-3 Tap the End 2 box, use the keyboard to enter a name, then tap

DONE.

4-4 On the CHANGE ID screen, make sure that End 1 and the

name you gave End 1 shows. If End 2 shows, tap the End 1/End
2
control in the upper-right corner of the screen to make End
1
show.

4-5 Tap DONE.

Step 5: Set Up Launch Fiber Compensation

For this tutorial, you will use launch and tail cords.
5-1 On the home screen, tap the TOOLS icon, then tap Set

Launch Compensation.

5-2 On the SET LAUNCH METHOD screen tap Launch + Tail.

5-3 Clean and inspect the OTDR port and the launch/tail cord

connectors.

5-4 Make the connections shown in Figure 16.

5-5 Tap SET.

5-6 When the SET LAUNCH COMP screen shows, select the event

that is the end of the launch cord and the start of the tail cord.
When you do Launch + Tail compensation, the end of the
launch cord and the start of the tail cord are the same event.

5-7 Tap SAVE.
