Causes of Loss/Length Test Failures

A known length of cable measures too long or too short
The wrong fiber type is selected on the TEST SETUP screen.
The wrong test limit is selected on the TEST SETUP screen.
The index of refraction needs adjustment. To change the IR setting,
tap Fiber Type Settings on the TEST SETUP screen.
Power meter measurement is too low
One or more connectors is dirty, damaged, misaligned, or loose. The VFL
can help you see some types of damage in connectors (Chapter 11). An
OTDR, such as the Fluke Networks OptiFiber
®
Pro OTDR, can help you
locate other types of faults (Chapter 9).
There is a kink, sharp bend, or crack in a test reference cord or the fiber
under test. Use the VFL to see these faults.
The source’s output is modulated.
The test reference cord is the wrong type (SM or MM) or has the wrong
core size.
Power meter measurement is too high
The tester is connected to an active CATV fiber.
No connection in Smart Remote or Loopback mode when the fiber paths
are complete.
The remote is in Auto CertiFiber Pro mode, as shown by a flashing red and
green LED below an OUTPUT port. To exit this mode, press the button on
the module to make the LED flash green.
