9.7 Measuring Tools with the TT 110 Touch Probe
The TNC and the machine tool must be set up by the machine tool builder for use of the TT 110. Tool meas-
urement is possible with the TT 110 only on machines with controlled spindle (spindle orientation).
In conjunction with the TNC's tool measurement cycles, the TT 110
enables you to measure tools automatically. The compensation values for
tool length and radius can be stored in the central tool file TOOL.T and
are accounted for in the next tool call. The following types of tool meas-
urement are provided:
• Tool measurement while the tool is at standstill
• Tool measurement while the tool is rotating
• Measurement of individual tool teeth
The tool measurement cycles are defined in the PROGRAMMING AND
EDITING mode of operation and are executed in a program run mode of
operation. The following cycles are available:
• TCH PROBE 30.0 TT CALIBRATE
• TCH PROBE 31.0 TOOL LENGTH
• TCH PROBE 32.0 TOOL RADIUS
• The measuring cycles can only be used when the central tool file TOOL.T is active.
• Before working with the measuring cycles, you must first enter all the required data into the central tool file
(see page 4-11) and call the tool to be measured.
Setting the machine parameters
For measuring a stationary tool, the TNC uses the probing feed rate from
MP6520 (see page 12-6).
When measuring a rotating tool, the TNC automatically calculates the
spindle speed and probing feed rate. The spindle speed is calculated as
follows:
n =
where
n =
Spindle speed [rpm]
MP6570 =
Maximum permissible surface
cuttingspeed [m/min]
r =
Active tool radius [mm]
The probe feed rate is calculated from:
v = Measuring tolerance • n
where
v =
Probing feed rate [mm/min]
Measuring tolerance =
Measuring tolerance [mm],
depending on MP6507
n =
Spindle speed [rpm]
MP6507 selects the method of calculating the probing feed rate (see also
page 12-6):
MP6507=0:
The measuring tolerance remains constant — regardless of
the tool radius. On very large tools, however, the probing
feed rate then approaches zero. The smaller the maximum
surface cutting speed (MP6570), and the smaller the
permissible tolerance (MP6510), the earlier this effect
becomes noticeable.
