2 Serial interface configuration
Nortel Secure Router 8000 Series
Configuration -WAN Access
system-view
The system view appears.
Step 2 Run:
interface serial interface-number
The serial interface view appears.
Step 3 Run:
detect dcd
The command enables DCD signal detection.
If the DCD signal detection of the interface is disabled, the system detects only when the
serial interface is connecting to the cable and reports the state (Up or Down) of the interface.
If the DCD signal is invalid, the system considers the interface as Down.
By default, DCD signal detection is enabled for synchronous serial interfaces.

Configuring DSR signal detection
Do as follows on the routers:
Step 1 Run:
system-view
The system view appears.
Step 2 Run:
interface serial interface-number
The serial interface view appears.
Step 3 Run:
detect dsr-dtr
The command enables DSR signal detection.
If the DSR signal detection of the interface is disabled, the system detects when the serial
interface is connecting to the cable and reports the state (Up and Down) of the interface. If the
DSR signal is invalid, the system considers the interface as Down.
By default, DSR the synchronous serial interface enables signal detection.
