Configuring the Line Card Operating Mode
By default, line cards are shipped without any operating mode selected.
You can enable various operating modes by setting the DIP switches, as
described in Appendix B, “DIP Switch Settings” on page 263 for detailed
information.
You can override the operating modes through the AT-S70 management
software. Most of the Converteon™ line cards support the following
operating modes:
Link Test
MissingLink™ Mode
Smart MissingLink Mode
OAM Capability
Note
Any operating mode changes you make through the AT-S70
management software override the DIP switch settings (if any).
Link Test
The link test is a fast and easy way for you to test the connections between
the line card ports and the end nodes that are connected to those ports. If
a network problem occurs, you can perform a link test to determine which
port is experiencing a problem, and therefore focus your troubleshooting
efforts on the cable and end node where the problem resides.
The LK LED for the twisted pair port should be green, indicating that it was
able to establish a link with its end nodes. If the LK LED is off, the port
could not establish a link.
Performing a link test does not interfere with a converter’s ability to pass
network traffic.
Note
Link test is supported on all Converteon™ line cards.
MissingLink™
The MissingLink™ feature enables the ports on the media converter to
pass the “Link” status of their connections to each other. When the line
card detects a problem on one of the ports, such as the loss of connection
to an end node, the line card shuts down the connection to the other port,
thus notifying the end node that the connection has been lost.
For example, if the twisted pair cable to the 10/100Base-TX port on the
line card fails, the line card responds by dropping the link on the
100Base-FX fiber optic port. In this way, the line card notifies the end node
