New Functions and Features 10-17

Updated Displays

A Point Browser has been added to the ProcessLogix displays to
simplify the entering of point names onto displays like the trend
displays. The Point Browser allows you to browse the points from an
area of the server you are connected to and enter it into the display by
clicking an Apply button.

Server Scripting

Scripting support has been added to the server allowing scripts to be
attached to various point, server, and report related events. These
scripts are typically edited from the “engineering” tool for the
particular object. Therefore standard point (analog, status,
accumulator) scripts are edited from Quick Builder. Server and report
object scripts are edited from Station. Server Scripts provide a way to
extend the server functionality in an easy to use way. They can be
used for information processing (data handoff, derived calculations)
and to initiate actions based on server events (a way to implement
custom action algorithms). Server Scripting has been optimized for
relatively short (<30 lines) scripts and is not intended for
implementing control strategies (these should be done in the
controller), applications that are computationally intensive or require
extensive file handling (Visual C/C++ or Visual Basic should be used).
Server Scripts don’t block point processing as the events are fired
asynchronously into the Server Object Model additionally Server
Scripting doesn’t impact other server functions as they run at a low
priority.

Attaching Server Scripts to 1757-PLX52 points is not supported.

Updated Display Builder

The Display Builder R320.2 has been enhanced to allow the
specification of parameters names longer than 12 characters.

Updated Quick Builder

Quick Builder has been updated for this release of ProcessLogix. It
now supports the upload of hardware from the server directly in the
same way that point upload has been supported in previous releases.
