5-2 ProcessLogix Client Installation and Upgrade Procedures
Operating System Support
Windows 2000 Professional
There are two supported installations to Windows 2000 Professional:
•
Clean Install: Windows 2000 Professional
•
Upgrade: Windows NT 4.0 Workstation to Windows 2000
Professional
For these scenarios, the current required Operating System
components are Windows 2000 Professional with Windows 2000 SP 2
applied and Internet Explorer 5.5 SP1.
The Windows 2000 Professional software, Service Packs, and Internet
Explorer are licensed products of Microsoft Corporation. Copies of the
Service Packs and Internet Explorer are included on the ProcessLogix
R400.0 Software CD 2 for your convenience.
Although the procedures for a clean Windows 2000 Client install can
be applied to both the Windows 2000 Professional and Windows 2000
Server Operating Systems, the preferred Client Operating System
between the two is Windows 2000 Professional. This version of the
operating system better fits the nature of the client/server architecture.
ATTENTION
!
Original releases of the NT 4.0 Operating system
could not address boot partitions larger than 4 GB.
Later, fixes were applied for NT 4.0 to address up to
a 7.8 GB boot partition.
Windows 2000 operating systems can address up to
a 32 GB boot partition natively, and larger partitions
with certain hardware configurations.
ProcessLogix R400.0 Client Software requires that the
boot partition be at least 4 GB. If your existing
system’s boot partition is less than 4 GB, it is
required that you follow a clean machine installation
to extend the boot partition size after proceeding
with the data preservation steps included in this
section.
Systems with 4GB or greater boot partitions can
proceed with the installation procedure. However,
you may want to consider a clean install to extend
the boot partition size.
