PC Performance for ProcessLogix Systems
This section describes how to customize the Microsoft Windows 2000
series of Operating Systems to gain the best performance for
ProcessLogix R400.0. The following is background information to help
you make the appropriate decisions related to your system’s control
configuration.
Operating Systems
Microsoft currently produces 4 versions of the Windows 2000
Operating System. Each is specialized to the general environment or
marketing segment they are intended for:
Professional
Tuned for the desktop/user environment. A multi-tasking operating
system tuned for fast interaction of foreground applications with the
ability to perform tasks simultaneously in the background. Also the
platform of choice for the Client side of the Client/Server network
environment. Supports up to 2 Processors.
Server
Traditionally used to service the file serving market place, it is also
used as a base to provide a wide range of Server Side applications for
the Client/Server network environment. (Mail, Database, etc.)
Supports up to 4 Processors.
Advanced Server
Basically the Server operating system with greater scalability and
additional reliability features such as Clustering and Load Balancing.
Supports up to 8 Processors.
Data Center
Building on the Advanced Server operating system with even greater
scalability and reliability features. Supports up to 32 Processors
natively, higher with specialized systems.
