release version update (RVU)
release version update (RVU). A collection of compatible revisions of NonStop operating
system software products, identified by an RVU ID, and shipped and supported as a
unit; for example, the G06.18 RVU. When HP releases a new RVU, you receive either
the entire RVU or selected products from the RVU off of its SUT.
An RVU is distributed on a site update tape (SUT) from which you can receive either
the entire RVU or selected products. The release ID is often different from the base
product versions of the specific products issued under that RVU.
release document. A document in the release subvolume (Y9230) on the site update tape
(SUT.) Release documents include the Release Highlights, Installation Guide, Product
Dependencies, Product Maintenance Levels, Performance Information, and a list of all
product versions and SPRs in the RVU.
release ID. An identifier that specifies a particular RVU of NonStop software; for example,
the G06.07 RVU. The release ID is often different from the product version IDs of the
specific products issued under that RVU.
Remote Server Call (RSC). A software product that let PCs access Pathway servers and
other operating system processes on a NonStop host system. RSC is no longer
supported.
request. A batch process initiated by a planner and performed by DSM/SCM. Requests
include such activities as receiving software into the archive, preparing reports for
printing or online viewing, and building a configuration revision. Information needed to
process the request is collected from one or more screens, then the request is
scheduled to run immediately or at a later, specified time.
revision. A set of software product versions. The number identifying the revision is updated
whenever a change is made either to the list of software products or to the input
configuration (CONFTEXT) file associated with the product list, or when a request to
build a configuration revision is submitted (even if no changes have been made to the
revision itself).
RSC. See

Subsystem Control Facility (SCF)
server. In a Pathway environment, a process that implements requests for database access
from a requester. Because DSM/SCM runs in the Pathway environment, it uses
servers and requesters to implement a user’s requests to access the DSM/SCM
database.
shorthand view. An alternative way of looking at data in one or more SQL/MP tables. It
consists of a single table derived from other tables. DSM/SCM provides shorthand
views of the DSM/SCM database that specify information from which you can create
custom reports.
