Managing Volumes Used by DSM/SCM
Managing Volumes Used by DSM/SCM
To address space or organizational issues on your system, you can manage the
volumes used by DSM/SCM on your system:
For information about the preinstalled DSM/SCM configuration, see
on page D-1, which specifies the subvolumes and files DSM/SCM
uses that must not be purged or altered under any circumstances.
Updating the Volume Usage
You can update which volumes DSM/SCM uses for the archive or as scratch volumes:
Scratch volumes
The default scratch volume is $DSMSCM. You can use any volume with sufficient
free space. DSM/SCM cleans up and reuses the temporary space during each
session.
Archive volume
The default archive volume is $AUDIT. You must allow an entire volume for archive
storage. The DSM/SCM archive and databases must be on volumes with names of
no more than seven characters ($xxxxxx) because DSM/SCM supports multiple
RVUs. The archive volumes must be network accessible to the system.
To update the system volume usage information:
Use the Planner Interface or ZPHIHMI for disk volumes on a host system. A host
system volume can be a scratch volume, archive volume, or both.
Use the Planner Interface or ZPHITMI for disk volumes on a target system. A
target system volume can only be a scratch volume.

Note. To improve system performance on NonStop S-series systems and Integrity
NonStop systems, configure each volume used for the archive for free-space table (FST)
caching. For information about specifying the FSTCACHING modifier, see the SCF
Reference Manual for the Storage Subsystem.
Note. To improve system performance, configure free-space table (FST) caching for each
archive volume. For information about specifying the FSTCACHING modifier, see the SCF
Reference Manual for the Storage Subsystem.
