Creating an Independent Snapshot of the Target
System
The host and target databases are not synchronized because of a recent
DSM/SCM process; for example, after an audit or database verification was
performed on the target system.
To create an independent snapshot of a target system:
1. At the ZPHITI main menu, enter 2 (Perform system snapshot) in the Selection
number field and press F1. DSM/SCM displays the Create Snapshot - Submit
Request screen, showing the snapshot default location – the last snapshot location
used for that system. There is no configurable default snapshot location.
2. If necessary, change the location where the snapshot is to be placed. You can
specify either a tape drive or disk location (node and volume). If you specify disk,
DSM/SCM places the file on the ZPHISNAP subvolume and supplies the file name.
3. Press F1 to submit the request. DSM/SCM creates the snapshot. While the
request is processing, DSM/SCM displays the Create Snapshot - Taking Snapshot
screen, which shows the request status and the snapshot file location.
The screen is updated with the current status approximately every 15 seconds.
While the request runs, to view current EMS messages related to the request,
press F4.
4. After submitting the request, you can return to the main menu (F16) or leave the
ZPHITI (Shift-F16). You can leave the ZPHITI while the request is running and
return while it is still running or after it has completed. When you reenter the
ZPHITI, the current request appears.
When the request is finished, DSM/SCM displays a completion message.
5. Send the current independent snapshot of the target database to the host system.
The Snapshot might be automatically transferred to the Host system after the
Snapshot is successfully created. Transfer depends on the value of the "Use
Network Connection" flag set using the ZPHITMI:
If this flag is set to Y and the Host and Target are Expand connected, the
Snapshot is automatically updated into the Host database as part of the
Independent Snapshot request.
If the flag is set to Y and the Host and Target are not Expand connected, the
attempt to send the Snapshot to the Host system fails.
If the Host and Target are not Expand connected or if the "Use Network
Connection" flag is set to N on the target, immediately transfer the snapshot to
the host system on tape or, if you stored the snapshot on disk, use a file-
transfer process. On the host system, receive the snapshot into the host
database.
6. Receive the snapshot of the target database into the host database to update it.
