Connect address

This parameter specifies the ASCII characters used to establish the internal
connection within an X.25 channel only. This parameter is normally set only on a
Primary port. This address is normally the same as the device address (see
paragraph Address above). This field can contain up to two displayable ASCII
characters. The default contains no characters.

Connect name

This parameter specifies the default destination name (normally a host) to which to
connect. If it is not present, then no connection is issued by this Device, but must
be issued from a Secondary port. This parameter is normally set only on a Primary
port. This field can contain up to 17 ASCII characters. The default is a null string.

Alternate name

The device alternate name parameter specifies an alternate routing path if this
Device is not active or its link is inactive. It should contain the name of another
Device with the same configuration. This parameter is usually set on a Secondary
port, and specifies the name of the Alternate Secondary port Device to which
traffic from this Device is routed if this link fails. This field can contain up to 17
ASCII characters. The default is a null string.

Options

There is one option for a Device.

Option A - Transparent Link Setup.

Setting this option enables end-to-end SDLC

link setup. When this option is set, the Primary TXPORT port waits for link setup
commands from the Secondary end to send it on the port ASIS, and sends back the
answer to these commands to the host end. On the other hand, a Secondary port
receiving U frames sends it to the Primary end and waits for an answer from the
Primary to give the answer to the host. Protocol spoofing starts after SDLC link
setup is estaablished. This permits the XID (exchange identification) between
devices for security purposes as well as letting the host know when the secondary
device is offline for banking applications.

This option must be set on both the Primary end and the Secondary end. The
Device Interoperation timer (see Device Inoperational Timer on page 195) should
not be set higher than 10 seconds, and the T1 timer (see T1 Timer on page 194)
should be set lower than the host timeout. The Primary port should establish the
TXPORT device connection to the Secondary port.
