Legacy Terminal
Options
All legacy terminal ports have a similar set of parameters for their stations. The
most options appear for Unisys Poll/Select stations. The following pages describe
how these options are used in real network situations and include diagrams and
NMCS screens referring to specific configuration requirements.
A - Auto Connect
On Power Up
This is a standard option which is set on for each terminal device in the majority
of situations. As shown in Figure 10-1, the MultiPro platform polls the specific
device and, upon receiving a response, tries to establish a connection to the
terminal’s default destination. If the connection process is successful, the terminal
has a logical pathway established to its destination. By using this option, the entire
process is transparent to the user. This is usually desirable since the end user
normally is not concerned with the mechanism, only that the necessary data can
accessed to complete their tasks.
As shown in Figure 10-2, the terminal port tries to establish a connection for a
device every off-line retry timer number of seconds. The default is 30. This means
that if a station does not respond to a poll or if it responds, but a connection was
not successfully established, as shown in Figure 10-3, it will be polled every 30
seconds.
