As was described in Auto Connect On Power Up on page 165, the MultiPro unit
continues to poll a device every 30 seconds to try to establish a connection for the
device. If this device happens to be an ATM as shown in Figure 10-15, it never
notifies the customers that it is disabled. To remedy the situation, this option should
be turned on. This means that the terminal port does not poll the device unless the
host port is active. The terminal port determines when the host port is active because
it receives a connect request from the host port for this device when the host port is
on-line. This means that instead of the terminal device initiating the connection to
the host, the host port initiates a connection to the terminal device when the host
begins polling the MultiPro unit. Using this method, the MultiPro platform does not
poll the device if the host is not polling the MultiPro unit.
Figure 10-16 and Figure 10-17 show the host and terminal port entries for a device
using this option. Notice also that the host port has option G (auto connect on link
active) set to yes.
