Legacy Host Options

B - Flush
Data For
Offline
Device
This option should be used with care. Normally, the MultiPro platform does not
accept data for devices that are not on-line. With this option set, the unit is forced to
accept a message for a device that is not on-line, but then discards the message. The
message is lost. This option can be used in systems with a large number of
unsolicited messages (i.e., log-on screens or broadcast messages). If messages are
queued up in a host for many off-line stations, the host spends extra time trying to
select these stations to deliver the messages. This increases the average poll-to-poll
and response time for on-line users. By setting this option, the host eliminates these
messages, making the host link more efficient. Since this is a station-level option, it
can be set for terminals, not for printers. This way print data is never discarded.
C - Auto
Connect
on Select
The nature of the MultiPro platform is that each device has a name and can thus
become a destination for another device. Normally, in legacy environments, a
terminal connects to a host port. There are occasions, though, where a connection
needs to be established from a host port to a terminal device. Such is the case
when two or more hosts share a remote printer.
With this option set, a connection is established to the device named in the auto
connect station name field when that particular device is selected by the host.
